What is prohibited
On GameTape, no one may upload, record, send, store, request or link to:
- child sexual abuse material of any kind, including drawn, edited or computer-generated imagery;
- content that sexualizes a minor, including sexualized comments on otherwise ordinary footage;
- grooming — building trust with a child, or their family, in order to exploit them — or any attempt to move a child into a private conversation away from their guardian;
- footage recorded in a locker room, restroom or other place where a child is undressing or has a reasonable expectation of privacy;
- anything that threatens, harasses or endangers a child.
These rules are part of our Terms. They apply to every account, every circle and every feature, including the Vault.
How GameTape is built for this
- 13 and up hold the accounts. Children under 13 do not sign up; they appear in GameTape only because a parent, guardian or authorized coach put them there. Teens 13 to 17 get teen accounts: they post only in rooms coaches and parents can see, and no coach or trainer can message a teen privately unless a verified parent turns it on.
- Nothing is public. Every clip lives inside a Family or team somebody chose. There is no public profile, no search for children, and no stranger discovery.
- Guardians see everything written about their child. Every note or message about a child is visible to that child's guardian. There are no hidden conversations with a child.
- A check before anything is sent. On an iPhone where Sensitive Content Warning or Communication Safety is turned on, a clip passes through Apple's on-device sensitive-content check before it leaves the phone; a clip that is flagged is held and not sent. The check happens on the phone — neither Apple nor GameTape sees the clip because of it.
- Reporting is built in. Every clip someone sends you has a Report button, and you can block whoever sent it. A clip reported for child safety, sexual content or violence is hidden from everyone except the person who filmed it the moment it is reported; for any other reason, it is hidden when a second person reports it. It stays hidden until we have reviewed it. In team chat, anyone can report a message and block a person. A report cannot be cleared by the person it is about. To report an account, write to safety@gametapeapp.com.
What we do when we find it
When we obtain actual knowledge of apparent child sexual abuse material on GameTape, we:
- remove it from view and disable the accounts involved;
- report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children through the CyberTipline as soon as reasonably possible, as required by 18 U.S.C. § 2258A, including the information about the accounts involved that the statute describes;
- preserve the reported material and related account information for one year, as that statute requires, and longer where law enforcement asks us to;
- cooperate with law enforcement under our Legal requests guidelines.
We do not tell the account holder before we report, and we do not restore material that has been reported. Access to reported material within GameTape is limited to the few people who must handle it, and only for the purposes the law allows.
Other safety concerns
An adult who should not be in a child's circle, a message that made a parent uneasy, a coach or parent behaving inappropriately: tell us at safety@gametapeapp.com, or report the message in team chat. A parent or guardian can take anyone out of their child's Family at any time, without giving a reason — in the app, or by writing to us and we do it the same day.
